I’m currently working at Luminator Technology Group, a company that makes lighting and signage for mass transit organizations. I’m working on control systems for LED signs, doing software for displaying messages and interacting with controllers over some kind of communication link. The systems I work with are embedded linux running on ARM or Intel processors. Communications links so far have been Ethernet and J1708 (similar to RS485).

I’ve worked at the application level most of my career, using mostly C/C++ to write network daemons to collect data and/or control devices. I got interested in electronics when I started working at Luminator because it put me closer to the hardware that I normally was, and I wanted to learn more about it. I’m not an engineer, just a hobbiest. It’s fun though.
